Bhoothathankettu is a dam and tourist place in India. It is situated outside the village of Pindimana, about 10 km away from the town of Kothamangalam and 50 km away from the main city of Kochi believe that the dam was constructed by bhoothathans .The During the Malayatoor. The dam got this name following a myth story believed by the natives. they pilgrim season, travellers use the roads through the forest. The man-made dam was built to tame the flow of Periyar, Kerala’s longest perennial river, and here we irrigate the paddy fields of Ernakulam district. The enormous outlooks of nature like towering hills, rocks, valleys, forests, migratory birds and wild animals. Bhoothathankettu, which is located just 8 kms north-east of Kothamangalam. A trip upriver on a house boat that can conveniently accommodate 25 (for a fee of Rs. 500 or Rs. 20 per person), a ride on a speedboat, a trek into the jungle, rock climbing, fishing the possibilities for relaxation and fun remain endless. Two main irrigation projects – the Periyar Valley Irrigation Project and the Idamalayar are also located nearby. One can also access pedal boats and cruises in these parts. It is a wonderful picnic spot about 10 km from Kothamangalam.
Boating through periyar is perhaps the best way to explore the wildness of bhoothathankettu and Thattekad in the real sense. Different types of boats from passenger’s capacity of 8 to 80 are available. Boating through the Dam reservoir to Thattekad. A boat ride here is a beautiful way to explore the natural beauty on display. All the security needs and arrangement are issued by the kerala Inland Vessel Rules 2010 like the jackets, life buoy, fire fighting equipments, water pumps etc are provided here. The boats can run to destination and timings as demanded by the guest. Boating time is from 8.00am to 6.00pm.
Bhoothathankettu park is a beautifully landscaped garden with toys and kids play area facing dam. There is a small park for kids, which can serve as a good picnic spot also. Entry fees to the park is very nominal and the rides are free to use and unlimited.
Bhoothathankettu dam is near to the famous Thattekad bird sanctuary in ernakulam dist. It is where late Salim Ali came and camped for viewing birds. A lot of migrating birds come here and you can watch these birds while boating in the reservoir and staying in the early morning and evening.The area is in the control of Forest department and they provide some facilities to tourists. There is an inspection bunglow for the government. you can drive and reach the place by taking diversion from kothamangalam Ernakulam-Munnar high way. December, January and February is the best to visit.

We had availed the Cab and Houseboat service from Sunny Kerala. We had a good experience. It was for 7 Nights 8 Days Kerala Tour Package in the Month of November 2016. The driver was very nice person and also helpful. The Houseboat at Alleppey was Wow...Great and the food was also good. We really enjoyed the Service which was very much in our budget.

I recently completed a tour organized by Sunny Holidays Kerala. It was a budget kerla holiday package. My family and I had a great time in Alleppey & Kochi. The accommodations were nicer than we expected and very much within our budget. The food in the house boat was marvellous. Each and every moment of the trip is memorable.
